Yes, you read that correctly, Benji is an NHS doctor who has turned his hand at comedy in recent years, receiving critical acclaim for his work as the latter. With a fascinating career path, and natural ability to make audiences laugh, Benji is the ideal comedian for corporate events and private functions.
Being an NHS psychiatrist is an intense job, especially with the current mental health crisis and NHS strain, so Benji Waterstones decided he needed a laugh. Taking to the comedy circuit he infuses anecdotal stand up with dry remarks and references to his day job, which combined, keep audiences in hysterics. From the Backyard Comedy Club to Top Secret Comedy, the Brighton Fringe to The Comedy Store, Benji has given audiences across the UK an enlightening look into the unlikely comedies of his role in the NHS.
As a totally unique comedian, Benji has been in high demand to attend some of the most popular comedy events. Recently in 2018, he has taken his show ‘Shrink’ to the Camden Comedy Club for four sell-out dates, and a further five sold-out shows at the Brighton Fringe in 2019. Proving there’s a definite demand for his medical jokes, he returned to the Brighton Fringe in 2020 with a brand new offering ‘How to be an NHS Psychiatrist Without Going Mad’ which was equally as successful as his appearance in 2019.
With a series of successful stints at the Brighton Fringe under his belt, Benji was shortlisted for the Brighton Fringe Best Newcomer Award, and later the BBC New Comedy Award. In 2014 he won the iconic Beat The Frog World Series title and was a finalist in the highly competitive So You Think You’re Funny? Which lead to him being recognised as a serious talent in the industry.
