Biography
Deemed “The Swedish Amy Schumer” by Comedy Central, Evelyn Mok is a stand up comedian and actress born in Sweden to immigrant Chinese parents. Mok challenges the pre-disposed norms of women in the spotlight with unapologetic style and sharp witted hilarity, making observations on casual racism, the perils of modern femininity and needs must sex with her inimitable joke delivery.
Landing on British soil, Evelyn was quickly selected for the prestigious Pleasance Theatre Comedy Reserve and Just the Tonic’s Big Value Showcase. She then garnered finalist positions in the Chortle Student Comedy Awards, Up the Creek New Act and Leicester Square New Comedian Awards and now performs stand up comedy all over the UK and Europe. Mok has already been named One to Watch by Time Out Magazine and appeared on BBC’s Edinburgh Fringe showcase BBC Presents, additionally she has performed alongside Sam Simmons in his Comedy Blap Wallstud: Spincycle for Channel 4 and guest stars alongside Tim Renkow in his Comedy Feed A Brief History of Tim for BBC3.
Mok continues to run her comedy career in Sweden with numerous appearances on radio and television in the local versions of Fonejacker (Telefonpiraterna), Have I got News for You (Hårdvinklat), and also created Evelyn’s videoblogg, her own 10-part webb-series based on one of her comedy characters, which she wrote and starred in for the Swedish National Broadcasting Network (SVT). A staple on the live circuit she has performed at the biggest festivals in the country and supported British comedian Paul Foot on his nationwide tour and Josie Long on her tour of Denmark.
