Biography:
Shetland-born comedian, actor and storyteller Marjolein Robertson has fast become one of the UK’s most exciting names. Ranking number three in The List’s Hot 100 as one of the top Scottish cultural contributors of 2023, Marjolein was also a finalist of the BBC New Comedy Awards, placed second in the Funny Women Stage Awards, and was awarded Scots Speaker of the Year in 2022. Marjolein initially began as an improviser while based in Amsterdam, until a series of unfortunate events (from homelessness to being robbed) led her local comedy school Easy Laughs to allow her into their stand up course as a means of ‘therapy’.
Her surreal and charming delivery, interwoven with Shetland folktales, landed Marjolein a completely sold-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2023 with her hit show Marj, earning two award-nominations and it was named as one of the top-reviewed shows of the festival.
Marjolein is a regular panelist on the BBC’s Breaking the News and The Good, the Bad and the Unexpected. Marjolein has also recently performed stand up on Dave’s Rosie Jones’ Disability Comedy Extravaganza and the BBC’s Scotland Stands Up, and has acted in the BBC’s award winning Shetland.
Marjolein embarked on her debut tour of the UK with Marj in 2024, and is preparing a new show titled O for the upcoming Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
