Sooz Kempner got the urge to try stand-up comedy when she was just 15 and was constantly coming up with new material. It took her just 9 years to eventually take the plunge and break on to London’s new act scene in March 2009. It was instant addiction. In October 2009 Sooz used her dubious skills as a pianist and singer to start doing musical comedy and has was recently named Best Newcomer at the 2010 UK Comedy Awards (March 2009).
Sooz’s interesting heritage (a Jew and a Nazi….you’ll see), ridiculous career choices (3 months in Ayia Napa as a Christina Aguilera tribute act anyone?) and terrifyingly middle class roots (father owns a shotgun, her 8th birthday present was a show pony) make for quirky sets full of energy. Other comics and promoters have described Sooz as “so bouncy!”, “slick and bubbly” and “as good as Lucy Porter”. Another promoter said following her set, “it’s just nice to see a decent pair of breasts up there, thank you Sooz” so even if she isn’t funny, she could have a career as a glamour model.
